Below are some steps on how to start using Wix to design your blogging site:

1) After signing up, just click on the “Build” button at the top left corner, then select “Create Site”. Choose the web template that suits your taste, and you’re all good!

2) Add your blog/website name, description and language. Click on the applicable tabs to add a custom favicon and logo to your site (Site Icon and Favicon). Save everything, then click “Build”.

3) On the Site Details page, click the “Pages” tab and choose which pages to app. This will give you an idea of how your site will look once it has been created. If you need to edit any of these pages, simply double click or right-click and select Edit Page. This will take you to edit mode, where you can make adjustments.

4) There are four web templates available on Wix: Business, Blogger, Portfolio and Personal.

These templates have a clean interface which makes it easier for you to customize your site/blog with ease.

5) On the Pages tab, select “Edit Layout” “All Layouts” to change the layout of these pages. Here, you will see different pre-defined layouts that you can use for your posts or pages. To build a page with several highlighted posts, simply select “featured column 1” and “featured column 2” from the “Posts & Texts” tab. Once done, click update and save changes. You’ll be able to view an instant preview of how your site/blog will look like.

6)On the “Header” page, you can upload background photos, change color schemes, and add widgets. For free users, there are only four background images that they can use; they cannot upload their own. You can also adjust your header height by dragging it downwards or upwards.

7) Following your site’s layout and design customization, click the “Design” button at the top of any page and scroll down to “Global Colors”. There are two areas where you can change colours: global site/header/footer and global brands & fonts. Once again, if ever changes need to be made, just double click on them or right-click → Edit Texts.

8) Finally, create your first post/page by clicking “New Post” or “New Page”.

Common mistakes that new bloggers make and how to avoid them

1] Register Your Domain Name

The first step to blogging is registering your domain name because, without it, no one can find you. Fortunately, Wix offers both free and cheap premium alternatives that include a custom domain.

2] Brainstorm for Content Ideas

Even if you don’t have a blog yet, chances are you already have some ideas for posts. Still, planning ahead of time for a content calendar will help keep your audience informed. To get started, check for Unique Monthly Visitors in Google Trends and Google Insights to see what topics do well in your niche.

3] Design Your Layout

Nowadays, hundreds of blogging platforms are available – from Wix, Weebly and Squarespace to Blogger and WordPress. In my opinion, though, Wix has one of the best free website templates for blogging.

4] Post Regularly

Most bloggers mistake thinking too much about their blog’s design and layout before actually starting to write. Every blogger wants a beautiful website with loads of features, but long-term success requires a solid content calendar. Decide on a schedule for posting and stick to it, even if it means staying up late!

5] Find Keywords That Your Audience is Searching For

Keywords are vital in helping Google find and rank your content in the SERPs. ‘Best New York restaurants’ is a good example of a keyword that has a lot of search results. While these topics may attract viewers, they’re also very difficult to outrank. Instead, try using long-tail keywords that are focused on your topic instead; ones like ‘best rooftop restaurants in NYC’. This will not only help you rank higher in the SERPs, but it will also aid users because you can address particular questions rather than just rehashing basic material.

6] Take Advantage of SEO

As I mentioned above, it’s crucial to find the right balance when choosing your keywords. Keyword density is required to trigger certain SERP features (e.g., knowledge graph, carousels, and Google+ snippets). To avoid this issue and improve SEO, try changing your theme with Schema markup (a free WordPress plugin) and following SEMrush’s recommendations.

7] Write Guest Posts for Exposure

Reach out to other bloggers for guest posts to reach their audiences while expanding your own online exposure. While contacting super-popular bloggers with large followings may seem like a good idea, keep in mind that these influencers are sometimes overrun with requests from other bloggers. Rather than pitching to big names, focus on contacting newer bloggers who could be interested in partnering.

8] Create an Editorial Calendar

At the beginning of each month, take some time to sit down and plan out your editorial calendar for the upcoming weeks. This isn’t only a great way to stay organized as a blogger; it’s also a helpful business marketing tactic that will help increase social media engagement by at least 100%.

9] Join Facebook Groups

Even if you don’t find any traffic from Pinterest or Twitter, you can still promote your content elsewhere through Facebook groups. In fact, this is something to do regularly as it allows me to cross-promote content across different networks, which helps increase my overall social media engagement by at least 40%.

10] Curate Others’ Work

If you want to promote your own blog posts, then why not spend some time sharing other people’s work as well? Besides the fact that it’s great for building relationships with influencers, curating relevant articles can also help your website gain even more exposure online.

11] Hire a Virtual Assistant

It goes without saying that putting out regular high-quality content isn’t easy, especially if you’re working full-time and trying to run a successful business at the same time. To solve this problem, many bloggers hire virtual assistants (VA) who are capable of writing posts for them while they focus on other aspects of their business, such as networking and increasing their social media engagement.

12] Create a Slideshow Post

Slideshow posts are very popular among Pinterest users because they allow you to easily illustrate a point without having to write out a novel in your caption. That being said, if you’re blogging about a certain topic that lends itself well to a slideshow post (e.g., different types of yoga poses), then this is definitely something worth trying out!

13] Share Your Personal Opinion

As soon as you decide what your blogging niche will be, your next step should be to come up with your personal opinion about it. Why? Well, studies have shown that personal blog posts tend to generate the most engagement among readers, so start thinking about what you’re truly passionate about and share your personal two cents.

14] Start a Celebrity Interview Series

If you love reading celebrity interviews, then why not try doing one yourself? Not only is it a great way to gain exposure online, but there’s also a good chance that these interviews will go viral as well. If I’m honest here, I owe much of my blog traffic to this exact strategy.

15] Publish Your Own Backlinks Index

Many people assume that backlinks are only necessary for ranking higher in search results, but they can help boost social media engagement by at least 30%. That’s why I recommend taking some time to create a backlinks index to help increase your blog traffic.

16] Keep it short and sweet

Long blog posts can overwhelm people, which ultimately makes them want to do anything else other than reading your articles, so keep all of them under 2000 words. In this way, you avoid putting off readers without boring your audience or sounding too repetitive. If you need more words, include links in the post itself pointing towards other articles on your site, which will give readers further insight into what they’re actually clicking on.

17]Use a call to action

At the end of each post, ask yourself what you want your reader to do next. Do you want them to click on another article or maybe subscribe using an email? Having a clear idea of what you would like them to do will lead them down a path where they feel satisfied with their experience as a whole and increase the chances that they’ll mention it with friends or come back for more.

With just a few clicks, you can have your blog up and running in no time. Best of all, there are no coding skills required to get started with the Wix blogging platform- so whether you’re an entrepreneur or small business owner looking for a way to connect more closely with prospects and clients via written content or someone who wants to share their thoughts on food trends with friends and family members without having to do any design work yourself – it’s easy!
